Campbellsville and
Taylor County are located in the heart of Central
Kentucky, nestled between the Cumberland Plateau
and
the Appalachian Mountains and offering the best of
both regions. Taylor County was founded in 1848 and
covers 270 square miles. More than 22,000 people live
in the county, about half of those in the county seat
of Campbellsville. The area is home to a pleasant mix
of agriculture, manufacturing and recreation. One of
the area's greatest recreational attractions is
Green
River Lake, which offers some of the finest fishing
and boating in the state. The
Civil War Battle of
Tebbs Bend was fought here in 1863 and several local
historic sites reflect that time period.
Among the county's more unusual
industries are the manufacture of church steeples and
handmade cherry furniture. Its principal farm products
include tobacco, corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs. The
town is home to the nationally recognized
Campbellsville University and to
Taylor County
Hospital, which includes the only Level III Trauma
Center in the state.
Campbellsville is host to one of the
biggest
4th of July celebrations in the state. More
than 25,000 people turn out for fireworks, country
music concerts, and more.
Historic downtown Campbellsville offers 190 businesses
and services.

HEALTH
CARE
Campbellsville-Taylor County is home
to an outstanding hospital, the Eye Institute of
Kentucky, a kidney dialysis center, four clinics and a
well-rounded variety of health care practitioners.
Taylor County Hospital provides
medical care for the 110,000 people who live in the
Campbellsville area. The 90-bed hospital is a major
asset to the central Kentucky region, providing care
from prenatal through advanced adult medicine. Its
24-hour emergency room is the only Level III Trauma
Center in the state of Kentucky. There are no Level II
or IV centers in the state and only three Level I
centers - University of Louisville, University of
Kentucky and Kosair Children's Hospital - so Taylor
County Hospital's role is crucial.
The hospital is affiliated with the
Louisville-based Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services
and has 36 doctors on staff, plus additional courtesy
and consulting physicians. Specialties offered
include: allergy, anesthesiology, cardiology,
dermatology, emergency services, family and general
practice, general surgery, hematology, internal
medicine, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology,
occupational medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, oral
and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic surgery,
otolaryngology, outpatient surgery, pathology,
