William M. “Bill” Munford, 77
William M. “Bill” Munford, Jr. of Campbellsville, son of the late William M. Munford, Sr. and Margaret Campbell Munford, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, September 28, 1932. He died at 9:21 P.M., Friday, June 11, 2010, in Elizabethtown. Age: 77
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Bethel First Presbyterian Church.
He was a 1949 graduate of Campbellsville High School, Associate Science Degree from Campbellsville University, attended University of Kentucky, 1954 graduate of KY School of Mortuary Science and a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1955. He served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Memberships included American Legion, Pitman Masonic Lodge #124 F&AM, United Profession Horseman Ass’n, American Saddlebred Museum, American Saddlebred Horse Ass’n, American Road Horse & Pony Ass’n, KY Ass’n Fairs & Horse Shows, US Equestrian Federation, and Have been a licensed Steward for over 38 years.
Employment included his funeral directing profession, Carnation Milk Co., City of Campbellsville, City Councilman, American Legion of KY, and Fair Publishing House.
He had many Horse Management positions including the following Horse Shows: Taylor Co., Rock Creek, Jasper Charity, St. Louis National Charity, Roanoke Valley, All American Horse World Exposition (Oklahama City), American Quarter Horse Worlds Championship, Pin Oak Charity (TX), Great American (Chicago), Bonnie Blue National (VA), Gasparilla (Tampa), Music City (TN), and Hollywood Charity (CA).
He was Manager of the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show some 28 years and Consultant and Sponsor Coordinator from 2001 to present.
Among Awards received were: UPHA Honor, Taylor Co. Fair & Horse Show – 1963 KY Outstanding Fair, UPHA, USEF Sportsmanship, UPHA Associate Award, KY Ass’n Hall of Fame Award, KY State Fair Hall of Fame, Taylor Co. Fair dedicated to Bill Munford in 2004, KY State Fair Gov. Paul Patton Honored he and Betty for being Manager 27 years, Meritorius Service to American Saddlebred Horse Ass’n. and First Wing Commander Award in 2007. He was active in 4-H and had registered Guernsey’s until 1959.
He united in marriage to Betty Jane Durham July 29, 1955. She preceded him in death December 22, 2004.
He is survived by two daughters: Jane Miller Munford of Campbellsville and Debbie Jo Scott of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters: Sami Jo Smith of Campbellsville and Beth Scott Kennedy and her husband, Craig of Charlottesville, Virginia; one great-grandson, Noah Kennedy; one sister, Raegena Munford Regets and her husband, Mike of Hamilton, Ohio; three sisters-in-law: Carolyn Wethington and her husband, William Allen of Campbellsville, Barbara Jean King of Lexington, and Joanne Trinkle of San Antonio, Texas; several other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his son, David Lynn Munford on June 4, 2010 and two brothers: Donnie R. Munford and Roger L. Munford.
