Frances Newton Moss
Frances Newton Moss, 108, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at The Grandview in Campbellsville, KY.
She was born in Campbellsville, KY, February 16, 1908, the daughter of the late John Thomas and Frances Phillips Newton. She grew up in Campbellsville and graduated from Campbellsville High School. She married Hubert G. Wooldridge, to whom two children were born, Mary Frances Hughes and James Thomas Wooldridge.
She moved to Louisville, KY in 1941 where she spent most of her adult life. She attended Spencerian Business School and was employed with the Internal Revenue Service. She retired from the IRS as Assistant, Chief of Personnel with 30 years of service. She was an active member of St. Paul Methodist Church, Louisville, KY. She was also an active member of Crescent Hill Women’s Club where she volunteered many hours in the Kosair Crippled Children’s Hospital’s Gift Shop. She enjoyed entertaining in her home for family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her rose garden and other flowers. She loved visits from her children and grandchildren and would plan special activities and trips around Kentucky to entertain them. She especially wanted her grandchildren from Florida to learn to love the state of Kentucky. She loved playing golf and traveling. She moved back to Campbellsville in January 2006, residing at Windsor Garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Wilbur C. (Bill) Moss, sister, Virginia N. Rose and brothers Thomas Puesy Newton and Marvin Newton.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Hughes and husband David of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; Son, Dr. Jimmy Wooldridge and wife Violet of Lebanon, KY; Five grandchildren, Jeff Wooldridge of Lebanon, KY; Terri Paoli and spouse Jules of Oxford, PA; Rick Tresher and spouse Cindy of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Karen Hughes and Spouse Jeb of Atlanta, GA; Craig Tresher and Spouse Cheryl of Charlotte, NC; 11 Great grandchildren and one sister, Peggy Graham and husband Charles of Campbellsville, KY.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Newton Moss will be held at the Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Ed Gayhart officiating. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, KY. The family request visitation for Ms. Moss on April 4, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time for the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances be sent to St. Paul Methodist Church, 2000 Douglas Blvd., Louisville, KY 40207 or your favorite charity in memory of Frances.
