William “Bill” Smith, 62
Gunnery Sergeant William R. “Bill” Smith of Campbellsville was born on April 10, 1954 to the late E.J. and Barbara (Ferguson) Smith in Orange, Texas. He departed this life Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Taylor Regional Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was 62 years, 3 months, and 18 days of age. GySgt Smith retired from active duty in the United States Marine Corps after 14 years of service. He was the proud husband of Mrs. Gay (Cottrell) Smith, who survives. He professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hard work, and found relaxation outdoors by raising flowers and a garden, reading, and hunting and fishing.
He leaves to carry his legacy:
His wife: Gay Smith
Two sons: William Smith and companion Chelsey of Lexington, and Donnie Hartsock of Louisiana,
Two siblings: Debbie and E.J., both of Texas,
Four grandchildren,
Special family friends: Stacey, Tracie, Tammy, and Suzanne,
And a host of other family and close friends.
He was also preceded in death by two siblings, Stevie and Bonnie.
There will be a funeral service to honor the life of GySgt. Smith on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY 42718.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 31, from 5:00-8:00 PM EST.
There will be an interment service on Thursday, August 4, at 11:00 AM EST at the Lebanon National Cemetery, 20 Highway 208, Lebanon, KY 40033. Full military Honors.
