Beulah Catherine Campbell
Beulah Catherine Campbell of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Abraham Campbell and Bertha Durham Campbell, was born May 7, 1916, in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 12:05A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2016 in Campbellsville. She fulfilled her long-time dream of living to be 100 years old, at which time she revealed her secret to living a long life; “to make each day a wonderful day.”
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Boone, North Carolina.
She was a graduate of Campbellsville Junior College and Western Kentucky State Teachers College and spent 45 years in the field of education. She taught in Taylor County’s rural schools including Sunny Hill (a one room school house), Boone Demonstration School, Boone North Carolina, Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and Appalachian State University Boone North Carolina. In 1978 she was promoted to full professor and in 1981 was granted emerita status, at the time of retirement from Appalachian State. She was passionate about children’s literature and throughout her career; she collected children’s books and illustrations, and gained national recognition for her work conducting literature conferences and workshops. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in North Carolina.
She is survived by her sister in law, Mary Campbell of Campbellsville; a niece, Janet Campbell Clark and husband, Gerald of Campbellsville; great nephew, Christopher Clark and wife, Shannon of Campbellsville; one great-great nephew, Cameron Thomas Clark and one great-great niece, Blair Campbell Clark and many other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her three brothers: Samuel Wray Campbell May 9, 1995 Omer Harding Campbell August 4, 1990 and a brother who died in infancy on October 4, 1912 and a great niece, Angela Clark Davis February 19, 2009.
