Melvin Douglas Martin, 86
Mr. Melvin Douglas “Doug” Martin of Campbellsville was born on February 1, 1930 in Taylor County to the late Cloyd and Amelia (Jones) Martin. He departed this life on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Grandview Nursing and Rehab Center, being 86 years, 11 months, and 25 days of age. Mr. Martin professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Green River Memorial Baptist Church. He was veteran of the Korean conflict and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Mr. Martin was a distinguished farmer and conservationist and had received many local, state, and national commendations and awards for his dedication to agriculture and conservation education. He was a board member for the Taylor County Conservation District, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the American Legion, a member of Pitman Masonic Lodge No. 124 F. & A. M., and a charter member of the Taylor County Fair Board. He married Reba Allen on June 8, 1951, and they shared their lives until his passing.

Three children: Peggy Caulk, Steve Martin and companion Pam Whitehead, and Janet Martin and fiancé Randy McCubbin, all of Campbellsville,
Two sisters: Margaret Cross of Greensburg, and Naomi Paxton of Campbellsville,
Six grandchildren: Kevin Caulk, Jason Caulk, Jeremy Caulk, Jennifer A. Caulk, Brad Brockman, and Travis Brockman,
Seven great-grandchildren,
A close friend: Brereton Jones of Midway,
And a host of other family and close friends.
There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Martin on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM EST in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Landon Hadley and Bro. Don Gowen will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3878 Greensburg Rd, Campbellsville, KY. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The board members and families of the Taylor County Conservation District are recognized as honorary pallbearers.
The family of Mr. Martin will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 28, from 5:00-8:00 PM EST. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday evening, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
