Bob Speer, 84
Bob Speer, 84, died Sunday, April 30, 2017. He quietly left this earth to reside in Heaven with his Lord and Savior. Born in Campbellsville, Kentucky, September 7, 1932 to Clarence and Cleo Speer. He attended all levels of school in his hometown before entering into Military service. Bob was one of the first airmen to arrive in 1952 at the newly commissioned Altus Air Force Base. He continued at the base in active service for 4 years. 1956 was a pivotal year in Bob’s life as he married the prettiest gal in Altus, the love of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vera Lee Dickenson Speer. He leaves behind a large legacy of family, four children and their spouses. Doug and Terri Speer of Altus, Ok, Dana and David Taylor of Corsicana, TX, Donita and Val Crane of Show Low, AZ, Debra and Paul Moesinger of Oklahoma City, Ok, grandchildren Jared Speer, Kaylee Speer, Tiffany Harrison, Courtney Prater, Zac Taylor, Lindsey Taylor, Amber Webb, Leslie Hardee, Ben Turner, Hillary Harris, Hailey Moesinger and Hannah Moesinger plus 11 great grandchildren.
Other surviving family members are brother Don and Sue Speer of Bowling Green, KY, sister Betty and Bob Mathews of Edmond, OK, sisters Joy Bryant and Sharon Reese of Campbellsville, KY, brother -n- law Jerry and Judy Dickenson of Altus, as well the many nieces and nephews he loved so much.
You hardly ever saw Bob without a smile on his face and a joke or story to tell. He loved anything involving cars, race cars, motor homes, and airplanes. In 1958 Bob began his career as a local businessman establishing Eastern Motors Car Lot which is still located on Broadway in Altus. Along with brother Don and brother n law Jerry as his partners in the car business, they went on to provide great family fun and excitement with Altus Speedway and Pleasant Valley Speedway in Wichita Falls, TX. Bob had a deep love for his family and for God. He served as a deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years. Especially meaningful to him was the early morning coffee meetings with his friends. Preceding him in death are his parents Clarence and Cleo Speer, brothers Bill Speer and David Speer.
A Visitation will be held Friday, May 5th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Memorial with Bob’s wife Vera Speer in attendance is Saturday, May 6th, 1;00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Altus, Ok.
