Mike Wilson, age 70 of Campbellsville died at his home on Saturday, December 21st. The son of the late Charles Wilson and Dulcie Amburgey Caudill, he was born November 19, 1949 at Pine Top, in Knott County, Kentucky. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.
A successful life-long broadcaster, Mike began his career as a television station engineer in Atlanta Georgia. Soon moving over to radio, he worked at Kentucky stations in Hazard and Jackson before joining VEER Broadcasting in 1972 where he soon became a partner and eventually the sole owner of the company.
In the mid 80’s he set out to make K Country 103.1 Kentucky’s most successful small market radio station. He purchased WMQQ in Springfield, KY, switching its oldies format to country, creating a powerhouse for Country music in Central Kentucky. He also purchased the legendary WAKY and restoring it to its original oldies rock format which had been popular in the 1960’s. He retired in the early 90’s selling the three stations to Commonwealth Broadcasting.
Not content with complete retirement for long, his love of radio led him to work part-time for stations in Colorado and Tennessee before coming back to Kentucky and working again with former coworker Larry Smith at WVLC in Campbellsville. His love of radio was exceeded only by his love of the communities he served in South Central Kentucky, especially Campbellsville and Greensburg.
His integrity, professionalism, and adherence to high journalistic standards made Mike Wilson one of the most trusted names in news and weather in Central Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife Pam, his daughter India Hooks of Bowling Green, his son Dr. Elijah Wilson and wife Savannah, a grandson Michael Elijah Wilson II, and the mother of his children, Joy Wilson Scruggs of Greensburg.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Braxton Hooks in 2017.
