Clara Martha Gaskins Humphress
Clara Martha Gaskins Humphress, age 84, of Knifley, Kentucky, departed this life surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the University of Louisville Health, Louisville, Kentucky. Mrs. Humphress was born March 15, 1938, in Ella (Adair County), Kentucky, to Elbert H. Gaskins and Mary Belle Pike Gaskins.
Clara married the love of her life, William “Bill” Lowell Humphress, February 22, 1958, and together they raised four children in Danville, Indiana. While in Indiana, Clara worked at Danville Junior High School where she was well known for her culinary skills, especially her cookies. She was “Team Mom” to hundreds of little leaguers over the years and kept ample supplies of “snacks” for their hungry appetites.
In 1997, Clara and Bill returned to Adair County and built a home on the family farm. Having accepted Christ as her Savior early in life, Clara attended Christie Chapel United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing and using her beautiful alto voice to sing his praises. She was always eager to grow, often seeking ways to improve and learn effective tips for singers. She also loved to read mystery books and play with her dogs and black cat, Ebony. In her spare time from cooking and baking she enjoyed watching University of Kentucky Wildcats and NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon. Clara was a beautiful, charming, kind, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son William Mitchell “Mitch” Humphress; and sister Dorlis Hitch.
