Gerald Myers
Gerald Myers, son of the late George Simon Myers and Mildred Noel Myers, was born February 15, 1963, in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He died at 11:30 A.M. Monday, March 18, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with cancer. His life didn’t come to an end with his death as he was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.
He was a pre-loader at UPS in Campbellsville. His drivers benefitted from his meticulousness and his stellar work ethic; he was proud to make his drivers’ routes as seamless as possible. He would have celebrated 25 years with the company in November.
Gerald married Terry Enzweiler of Florence, Kentucky on May 24, 1986. The couple met early in their college years at the University of Kentucky. Terry describes Gerald as “not just a husband, but a best friend, companion, and soulmate.” He was her heart and hero.
Gerald was a prolific artist. He sketched, painted, carved, designed, and photographed. However, many people know him for his “Etch a Sketch” art. Because he always carried one with him, he frequently captivated audiences. While most people struggle to create a straight line, he could etch an entire scene from memory.
No matter the weather, Gerald loved riding his Harley Davidson Road King. One of his most cherished experiences was traveling to Sturgis with two of his life-long buddies. He had a tradition of taking a ride, even if it was a short one, on New Year’s Day. He always joked, “You’ll never see a Harley parked outside of a psychiatrist’s office.”
Everyone knew Gerald was an avid music lover. He could recall every concert he’d ever been to, who opened, and who was with him. In recent years, Gerald and Terry were able to attend quite a few shows, which brought him great joy.
All can learn from the way Gerald was a kind and generous servant. He was patient and understanding, but he could surprise you with his clever remarks and biting sarcasm. Gerald was a good man and a good friend. He carried himself with humility and grace and uplifted others despite his own struggles. A 20-year warrior against cancer, Gerald was a champion for others who were fighting adversity themselves. He kept a positive attitude throughout all of his hardships and encouraged others to not give up in their own battles. His motto was “every day is a good day.”
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Bethel First Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife, Terry, Gerald is survived by three children: Ruth Myers of Lexington, KY, Elijah Myers of Baltimore, MD, and Rachel Myers of Louisville, KY; one sister, Sherry Myers-Sonnenberg and husband, Charles of Nashville, TN; aunts: Margaret Doris Noel of Nashville, TN, and Gwendola Glover of New Albany, IN; and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a special cousin, Danny Perry of Knoxville, TN.
The visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made at the funeral home to benefit Green River Ministries or Brookside Cemetery Association. Additionally, Gerald requested acts of kindness to those less fortunate and in need of help in his memory.
