Eugene Frederick Land

Eugene Frederick Land of Bowling Green, formerly of Campbellsville, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 21, 2014. He was born July 31, 1924 in Casey County, Kentucky, to the late Guy and Beulah Shreve Land. Age: 90
He was a member of the Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Scottsville.
He served as Commissioner of Labor in the Commonwealth of Kentucky under two governors and devoted his life to the betterment of the working man. He also served as an International Representative and Lobbyist of the United Auto Workers (UAW) in Kentucky and Indiana.
He served his country honorable in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Lavelle Land of Bowling Green; three sons: Larry (Renee) Land of Lexington, James (Mimi) Land of Glendale, California, David Land of Louisville and one daughter, Lisa Land Forrest of St. Petersburg, Florida; four step-children: Roger (Vicky) Mahaney of Destin, Florida, Judy Hopkins, Tommy (Sandy) Mahaney and Terry (Tammy) Mahaney of Bowling Green; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved dearly; and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a wife, Lillian Clements Land and a daughter, Sue Land Monahan.

Joan Haliday of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Everett Girdler Norfleet and Marjorie Ruddle Norfleet, was born May 29, 1938, in Fayette County, Kentucky. She died at 11:55 P.M., Friday, December 19, 2014, in Campbellsville. Age 76 She professed faith in Christ and was of the Christian Faith. Joan grew up in Lexington, Ky, lived in Louisville while teaching Kindergarten with the Spencer County School System, and retired to Campbellsville, Ky. She is Survived by one son and one daughter: Mike Haliday and wife, Lisa of Campbellsville and Aimee Downs and husband, Rik of Mt. Eden, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Levi Haliday and Jessica Haliday of Campbellsville; one brother and one sister: John Norfleet and wife, Shirley of Frankfort and Rosemary Peace and husband, Don of Elizabethtown; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Survivors include: Three daughters: Paula Hall and husband Jack, Melissa Whitlock, Beverly Beck and husband David, all of Campbellsville.

Three sons: Lee Stubbs and wife Billie Joe and Junior Stubbs of Campbellsville and Robbie Stubbs of Tennessee.

9 brothers and sisters: Josie Osborne and husband Wesley, John Read and wife Sharon, Rosie Read, Evelyn Read, Edna Read and Lyndia Smith, all of Campbellsville, Benny Read and Deloris “Tiny” Jeffries both of Greensburg and Larry Read of Columbia.

11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tressie Hunt of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Hubbie Graham and Bessie Caulk Graham, was born April 1, 1926, in Taylor County, Kentucky.   She died at 4:45 P.M., Thursday, December 18, 2014, in Campbellsville.   Age 88

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after eighteen years of service and had also helped her husband manage their business, “Earl’s TV, Furniture and Repair” for eighteen years.

She united in marriage to Earl Hunt October 3, 1956.  He preceded her in death June 13, 2001.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Sherry Hunt of Campbellsville; two grandsons and one granddaughter:  Austin Hunt, Matthew Hunt and Brooklyn Watson; one brother and one sister:  Roy Graham and Goldie Graham of Campbellsville; two brothers-in-law, Bert Rhodes, Jr. and wife, Florence and Tommy Hunt and wife, Arlene of Campbellsville; two sisters-in-law: Betty Jean Graham and Dorothy Graham of Campbellsville; special niece, Shirley Newcomb of Campbellsville; special cousin, Dixie Wise of Campbellsville; several other  nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister:  Edgar Graham, Robert Graham, James Earl Graham, Freddie Graham and Lorene Rhodes.

George Edward “Eddie” Richards, Sr.

richards, george eddieGeorge Edward “Eddie” Richards, Sr., age 68, of Campbellsville died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Taylor Regional Hospital  in Campbellsville.

Eddie was born September 2, 1946 in Corydon, Indiana to the late Charles Calvin and Lida Melson Richards.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Chuck Richards, Carl Richards and Charlie Richards; his sisters, Ruby Gabehart, Mabel Richards and Linda Gail Coffman; a grandson, Brandon Tyler Richards and a son-in-law, Michael “Scott” Judd.

He married, Patricia Ann Winkler on March 8, 1969 who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Lisa Bright and her husband, Bengy, Debbie Coomer and her husband, Troy, George Edward “Junior” Richards, Jr. and Shanna Richards Judd, all of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren, Crystal Richards, Brittany Sapp, Jared Coomer, Gabby Coomer, Tayler Judd, Kyndell Kearnes and GerogeAnn Kearnes, all of Campbellsville; two great-grandchildren, Briley Sapp and Colton Sapp; three sisters, Joyce Owens and her husband, Max of Indianapolis, IN, Diane Smith and her husband, Jerry of Columbia and Connie Lumpkin, of Campbellsville and a brother, Paul Charles Richards of Campbellsville.

He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18th at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home, Campbellsville by Bro. Kyle Franklin with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers are Richie Crews, Jared Coomer, Chris Brunelle, Michael Lumpkin, Trou Coomer and Roger Lane.

Charles Mattingly, 82

Mr. Charles William “Old Man Bill” Mattingly was born in Marion County, KY on October 12, 1932 to the late Jesse Smothers and Mary Nettie Mattingly. He departed this life at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville on December 11, 2014, having attained the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 29 days. As a young man, Mr. Mattingly started farm work for Reuben Blandford in Marion County; soon after, he made farming his career. He had an enduring love for all things outdoors, and was very passionate about growing roses. Although never proven, some claim he could even coax rose sprouts from a rock. Mr. Mattingly made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Loretto. He married Edna Evelyn Mattingly, who preceded him in death in December 1967. Some years later, he married Gladys Katherine Mattingly, who survives.

Besides his wife, Mr. Mattingly leaves to cherish his memory:
A son: Billy Mattingly of Raywick,
A daughter and step-son: Gayle and Paul “Buddy” McNear of Campbellsville,
Step-children: Treccia Buckman and husband David of Raywick, Nancy McNear of Somerset, Joyline Bentley of Elkhorn, and Jimmy Raikes of Campbellsville,
A former son-in-law: Timmy Johnson of Campbellsville,
A former daughter-in-law: Sissy Mattingly,
A brother: R.E. Minor of Indiana,
Twenty-five grandchildren, including a special grandchild: “Little Neal”
Several great-grandchildren, and a host of other extended family and friends.

Besides his parents and first wife, Mr. Mattingly was also preceded in death by:
A daughter, Nadine Johnson,
A step-son, David Raikes,
A son-in-law: Tom Underwood,
And one brother: Jack Mattingly.

There will be funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Mattingly on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Jeff Edwards will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Liberty Cemetery, Marion County, KY.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 13, from 6:00-8:00 PM, on Sunday, December 14, from 10:00AM – 8:00PM, and on Monday, December 15, from 8:00 AM until time for the service.

McDonald PicMr. Richard Lee McDonald, age 40, of Campbellsville, passed away on Wednesday in Louisville at the Jewish Hospital.

Survivors include his parents: George and Diane Shofner McDonald of Campbellsville.

Four children: Josh Cloyd, Ricky Lee McDonald, Austin McDonald and Alley McDonald all of Campbellsville.

Two brothers: Travis Dale McDonald and wife Amanda and Cody McDonald and wife Beth all of Campbellsville.

His grandparents: Alvin and Mildred Shofner of Greensburg.

His companion: Sonya Lane of Campbellsville.

Nieces and nephews: Sydney McDonald, Destiny Abell, Xavier McDonald, Karley McDonald and on the way.

The funeral service for Mr. Richard Lee McDonald, will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Bobby Lynn Hazard, age 78

On Wednesday evening at 6:17 p.m., God dispatched an angel and called Robert “Bobby” Hazard home to be with the Lord.

Bobby was born to the late David Logan Hazard and Katherine Douglas on November 9, 1935 in Campbellsville, KY.  He professed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined Fannie Chapel CME Church of Campbellsville.  He attended Durham School in Campbellsville, KY.

Bobby leaves to mourn a loving and devoted wife, Betty Hazard of Campbellsville: four children; Marlow Hazard (Robin) of Bowling Green, KY; Leona Smith and Veronica Hazard of Campbellsville; LaWanda Irvin (Derieco) of Louisville, KY.

He is also a proud grandfather who embellished each grandchild with unique nicknames:  LaJuan Hazard (Juan Oneal from Campbellsville), Genisha Smith (Genisha Recee Cup), Denika Smith (Ann Fran Peter Pan), Jazzmin Hazard (Jazz Marazz), and Kinley Smith (Kin Kin). He has two energetic great grandchildren: Kaiyden (Hand Print) and Xavien (Shorty); and a host of family and friends.

Bobby was a very hard worker. He loved cars and always kept his clean.  He retired from Parker Kalon and was a diehard fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13th at Fannie Chapel CME Church in Campbellsville where visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

ClementsMrs. Rosa Betty Clements of Elkhorn passed from this life on December 10, 2014 at her home. She was 62 years, 9 months, and 24 days of age. She was the only child born to the late China Elizabeth (Morgan) Airensmier and the cherished wife of David Clements, who survives.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Clements leaves to cherish her memory:
One son: Thomas Wayne Morgan of Campbellsville,
One daughter: Amy Beth Baldwin and husband Danny of Campbellsville,
Four grandchildren: Kimberly Thompson of Campbellsville, Renee Goodin of Knifely, Jesse Durham of Campbellsville, and Brandon Morgan of Russell Springs,
Two great-grandchildren: Brianna Hayes and Kylie Thompson, both of Campbellsville,
And a host of extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Thomas Morgan and David Thomas Morgan.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Rosa Clements on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Danny Baldwin will be officiating.
