Jamia Skaggs

Jamia Skaggs of Campbellsville, daughter of the late James William Skaggs and Dalice “Bit” Hearon Skaggs, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, December 12, 1956.  She died at 9:52 P.M., Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Campbellsville.     Age:    56

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Mt. Roberts Baptist Church.

She was office coordinator for the State Fire Rescue Training Area 14.

She was an inductee of the Kentucky Firefighters Association Hall of Fame and had worked on countless projects benefitting the Kentucky Firefighters Association.  She played a vital role in the State Fire School and Exhibit Show for 19 years.  She had also assisted with the State Firefighter Olympics, the Firefighter Memorial and many other special events.  She played a vital role in the purchase of the public relations booth for the KFA.  She had pursued the advancement of membership in the KFA in Area Region 14 and throughout the state.  Jamia started the Kentucky Firefighters Association Facebook group which now has over 700 members.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah S. and Terry Mardis of Campbellsville; two nephews:  Brian Mardis and wife, Dawn and Michael Mardis and wife, Lisa of Campbellsville; five great-nephews: Austin Blake Mardis, Nathaniel Cole Mardis, Noah Ethan Mardis, William Andrew Mardis and Joshua Luke Mardis of Campbellsville; several aunts, cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Teresa Pruitt of Campbellsville, daughter of Louise Curry Coffey and the late Kenneth Coffey, was born in Adair County, Kentucky, August 26, 1960.  She died at 9:28 A.M., Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Campbellsville.     Age:    52

She united in marriage to Roger Pruitt February 14, 1980.

Besides her husband Roger Pruitt, she is survived by one son,  Justin Pruitt of Campbellsville; one stepson, Christopher Pruitt of Park City; two step- grandchildren: Braxton Pruitt of Park City and Teri Jo Davis of Glasgow; her mother, Louise Curry Coffey of Campbellsville; one brother: Mark Coffey and wife Rebecca of Columbia; one sister-in-law, Edith Coffey of Campbellsville; a special cousin, Cathy Curry Birlew of Stockton, California;  special friend, Sherry Williams of Columbia; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, David Coffey.

William A. Farmer

William A. Farmer of Campbellsville, son of the late Ray Farmer and Minnie Parker Farmer, was born March 15, 1934, in Jackson County, Kentucky.  He died at 4:50 A.M., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Greensburg.    Age: 79

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of South Campbellsville Baptist  Church.

He was a retired employee of Chandler’s Office Supply in Campbellsville.

He united in marriage to Betty Hayes March 21, 1953.

Besides his wife, Betty Farmer, he is survived by one son and two daughters:  Richard Farmer and wife, Sue, Connie Humphress and husband, David of Campbellsville and Cathy Spear and husband, Lonnie of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Wells of Dayton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters:  Edgar Farmer, Ted Farmer, Jerry Farmer, Paul Farmer, Ruth Johnson and Thelma Philbeck.

Mrs. Maureen (Ward) Wade, age 67, of Campbellsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. Mrs. Wade was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Margaret (Major) Ward. She united in marriage to Orlando “Buck” Stamper who preceded her in death in 1979. Later, she united in marriage to Joseph “Rufus” Wade, who survives.

Besides her husband, Rufus Wade, she is survived by:
Four children – Michael L. Stamper of Radcliff, KY, Orlando Stamper, Jr. of Lawrenceburg, KY, Angela S. Brito of Wichita, KS, and Annette Webb of Milford, DE
Three sisters – Nancy McGlothin of Raton, NM, Judy Ward of New Haven, KY, and Michelle Roten of Roswell, GA
Six grandchildren,
And a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret Ward, and one grandchild, Noah Stamper.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 22, at the LR Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Campbellsville, KY, at 6:00 EST, with the family receiving visitors after 5:00 EST. Bro. Ray Judd will be officiating.

Margaret Eaton of Glasgow, formerly of Campbellsville, daughter of the late John Wesley Barlow and Mary Ellen Jones Barlow, was born in Monroe County, Kentucky, February 9, 1922.  She died at 12:40 P.M., Sunday, August 18, 2013 in Glasgow.     Age:    91

She professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith.

She united in marriage to Rev. Thurman Eaton January 3, 1944.  He preceded her in death May 11, 1990.

She is survived by two sons:  Cary Eaton and significant other, Candy of Glasgow and Jeff Eaton and wife, Julie of Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren:  Kim Wyatt of Glasgow, Missy Martin and husband, Kevin of Horse Cave, Andrew Eaton and Laura Cannon and husband, Tom of Lexington; four great-grandchildren:  Garrett Wyatt, Corbin Wyatt, Cully Martin and Maddie Martin; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Charles Lee Cowherd of Campbellsville, son of the late William Turner Cowherd and Sallie Matt Gaddie Cowherd, was born February 8, 1920 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 5:28 A.M., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Elizabethtown.

Age: 93

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Early’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was carpenter and a farmer.

He united in marriage to Audrey Reynolds November 24, 1944.

Besides his wife, Audrey Cowherd of Campbellsville, he is survived by one daughter and two sons and their spouses: Cora and James Renfro of Columbia, Charles Vernon and Carolyn Cowherd and Eddie and Patsy Cowherd of Campbellsville; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Cowherd Matney of Greensburg; eleven grandchildren: Anthony Cowherd, Brian Cowherd and wife, Shonda, Dwight Renfro and wife, Renee, Jaime Renfro, Jessica Settles and husband, Jeremy, Caitlyn Cowherd, Bret Cowherd, Aylette Cowherd, Ceyley Cowherd, Ceeanna Cowherd and Zoe Cowherd; three great-grandchildren: Hunter Cowherd, Addison Cowherd and Bryce Cowherd; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She left to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Fred Clem of Elizabethtown; one granddaughter, Laura Hess and husband, Matthew of Elizabethtown; two great-grandsons: Tanner Creighton Hess and Sawyer Matthew Hess; one brother, Russell Akin of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Moss September 10, 2012.

          Edwin Darrell Bright, age 71 of Campbellsville, died Friday, August 9, 2013 in Wilmore, Kentucky.

          Edwin Darrell was the son of the late Audrey Christie and Lloyd Buck Bright.

          Edwin Darrell Bright was a Decorated Viet Nam Veteran in the United States Army.   Ed was retired United States Postal Service “Post Master of Mannsville.” Ed “Colonial” Bright loved fishing and spending time with his friends, he was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather.

          He is survived by his wife Shirley Bright, two daughters; Teresa Bright of Campbellsville and Missy and (Keith) Burress of Mt. Washington, one granddaughter; Stephanie Blakeman, two brothers and daughter-in-law; Jim Bright of Campbellsville, Terry and (Katheryn) Bright of Tennessee, one sister and brother-in-law; Judy and (Bob) O’Banion of Florence, one uncle Don Christie and wife Vivian, along with a host of family and friends.

          Services for Mr. Edwin Bright were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home with burial in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors by D.V.A. Chapter 70 with the assistance of the Patriot Guard Riders.
