John Walter “J.W.” Karnes, 56

John Walter “J.W.” Karnes, of Campbellsville, the son of the late Walter N. Karnes and Doris Ruth Shofner Karnes of Campbellsville, was born July 31, 1967 and departed this life on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Taylor Regional Hospital. He was 56 years of age.

He was a self-employed painter and loved and also enjoyed artwork. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Ruth Shofner Karnes, along with four brothers: Darrell “D.L.” Karnes, Brian Karnes and wife Tasha all of Campbellsville, David Karnes of Texas, and Roger Karnes of Maine.

A niece and nephew Eli Karnes and Shelby Karnes both of Campbellsville.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at the Otter Creek Cemetery.

Bro Freddy Thompson will officiate.

Garry Humphress

Garry Allen Humphress, 87, of Columbia, Kentucky, son of the late Lee A. Humphress and Estelle Hovious Humphress was born October 16th, 1936, in Columbia, KY, and departed this life on December 24th, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.
Garry united in marriage to Ms. Eleanor Yevonne Humphress on April 20th, 1957. She survives.
Garry was a retired cabinet maker. He manufactured cherry furniture for 61 years. He enjoyed mowing and spending time outdoors. Garry has loved singing gospel music since 1975 and has been singing with the Living Waters Gospel Group for over 18 years. He professed faith in Christ and was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Church of God for many years. He was a school bus driver for the Adair County School System for 27 years.

Besides his wife, Garry is survived by:
Two sons: Timmy Humphress and his wife, Tammy, of Columbia; and Todd Humphress and his wife, Jill, of Elk Horn
Three grandchildren: Matthew Humphress of Columbia; Daniel Humphress and his wife, Kaci, of Columbia; and Nick Humphress and his wife, Brooke, of Elk Horn
Five great-grandchildren: McKenzie Humphress of Columbia; Emma Burton of Columbia; Rhett Humphress of Columbia; Blaine Humphress of Columbia; and Linny Humphress of Elk Horn
A host of other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by:
One sister and two brothers: Imogene Dudgeon, Blue Humphress, and Harold Humphress

VISITATION: Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

FUNERAL: Thursday, December 28th, 2023 at 11:00 am at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville with burial to follow in Harden Cemetery. Bro. Jake Eldridge and Bro. Raymond Atwood will be officiating.

PALLBEARERS: Matthew Humphress, Daniel Humphress, Nick Humphress, Stan Curry, Ronnie Humphress, and Darrel Dudgeon

June Bishop of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Robert S. Holman and Ellen Joyner Holman, was born November 23, 1938 in Hardin County, Kentucky.  She died at 5:56 P.M., Saturday, December 23, 2023 in Campbellsville.    Age:  85

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.

She was a public school teacher and homemaker.

She was an active member of Campbellsville Baptist Church where she and her husband, Don, taught a Sunday School class for decades.

She was an active member of the Campbellsville Professional Women’s Club, and spent many years involved in the athletics department at Campbellsville College, now Campbellsville University.

June was the biggest cheerleader and supporter for her whole family, especially for her husband, Don. She often referred to him as her hero.

She has left a legacy of faith, beauty and grace that all women would aspire to have.

She united in marriage to Don Bishop July 7, 1957 and he preceded her in death December 27, 2017.

June is survived by two daughters:  Robyn Lawless and husband, Randy and Susie Pollock and husband, Michael “Sarge” Pollock of Campbellsville; four grandchildren:  Luke Lawless and wife, Rebecca, Lincoln Lawless and significant other, Kelsi Tackett, Reagan Pollock Allen and husband, Blake and MeLeigha Pollock Milby and husband, Blake of Campbellsville; two great-grandchildren:  Fletcher Milby and EverLeigh Milby; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

June was also preceded in death by a twin brother, Jerry Holman.

Jeffrey Alan Dicken, 66

Mr. Jeffrey Alan Dicken of Campbellsville passed from this life on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Taylor Regional Hospital. He was born in Taylor County on July 13, 1957 to the late Herbert and Sue (Wolford) Dicken, and was 66 years of age at the time of his passing. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Christian faith.

He leaves to mourn his passing:

Two children: Daniel Dicken and wife Amanda, and Jeffrey Adam Dicken,

Two stepchildren: April Berry and husband Danny, and Jenny Ray,

Two brothers: Johnny Dicken and Richard “Duncan” Dicken and wife Brenda,

Seven grandchildren,

And a host of extended family members and friends.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Dicken.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Dicken on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Interment will follow in the Lebanon National Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Phyllis Faye Murphy, 77

Phyllis Faye Murphy, of Campbellsville, the daughter of the late Woody McQueary and Opal Cheek McQueary, was born May 2, 1946, in Campbellsville and departed this life on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Taylor Regional Hospital. She was 77 years of age.

She was a homemaker and provided childcare. She enjoyed reading, baking cookies, nature, and flowers, and taking trips to Gatlinburg with her family. She professed faith in Christ and attended Campbellsville Baptist Temple.

She united in marriage to Joseph Rader Murphy of Campbellsville who survives.

Also surviving are one son: Jarrod Shane Murphy of Campbellsville, one brother: Terry McQueary and wife Beverly of Campbellsville, a special sister-in-law, Donna Ray Murphy, along with a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Phyllis Faye Murphy on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home Chapel.

Bro. John Nguyen will officiate.

Mr. Larry Vernon Tungate, Sr. of Campbellsville passed peacefully from this life on December 20, 2023 at the Baptist Health Hardin Hospital in Elizabethtown. Born on October 13, 1947 in Marion County to the late Vernon Nash Tungate and Bernice (Cox) Lawson, he was 76 years of age. He was a former truck driver for H&O Trucking and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Tungate was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed catfishing and hunting. A talented mechanic, he also enjoyed working on trucks and tractors.

He leaves to cherish his memory:

Three children: Larry Tungate, Jr. of Lebanon, Regina Hillard of Campbellsville, and Theresa Tucker of Campbellsville,

Five siblings: Little Johnny Tungate and wife Brenda, Veda Marie Thomas and husband Danny, Wanda Sue Nelson and husband Jimmie, Carolyn Barnett and husband Jack, and Barbara Jean Marcum, all of Campbellsville,

Nine grandchildren: Robby Deering, Rochelle Brahm, Terri Jo Tungate, Anthony Hillard, Alec Hillard, Autumn Hillard, Ayden Hillard, Abby Hillard, and Raelyn Hillard,

Twelve great-grandchildren, including two expectant,

And a host of other family members and friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Tungate on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R .Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Jason Roop will officiate. Interment will follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Audrey Diane Caulk Bland of Campbellsville, daughter of the late W. R. “Dick” Caulk and Ermine Richerson Caulk, was born June 23, 1947 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 20, 2023 in Greensburg.    Age:  76

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of St. Mark Methodist Church.

Diane attended college at Campbellsville University and was employed as a clerk at Kmart and Parks Belk.

She enjoyed reading and loved her cats and the Taylor County Public Library.

She is survived by cousins and caregivers, Lisa and Darren Wade of Campbellsville and many other relatives and friends.

Diane was also preceded in death by a daughter, Audra Denise Scott August 19, 2006; a brother, Randall Caulk May 26, 2010 and a half brother, Robert L. “Bobby” Caulk June 28, 2008.

Ralph Gooslin of Campbellsville, son of the late Jesse Gooslin and Goldie Mae Crawford Gooslin, was born May 30, 1945 in Thacker, West Virginia.  He died at 12:55 A.M., Monday, December 18, 2023 in Elizabethtown.    Age:  78

He professed faith in Christ and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Ralph was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served  his country honorably in the United States Army.

He was a retired self-employed carpenter.

He united in marriage to Joyce Sherman who preceded him in death.

Ralph is survived by one brother and five sisters:  Jesse Gooslin, Jr. and wife, Marie and Nanette Norris of Ohio, Dottie Roberts and husband, Gene of Alabama, Blanche Slaten and Delores Overstreet and husband, James of Illinois and Shannon Kraft of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Ralph was also preceded in death by two brothers:  Tommy Gooslin and Arnold Gooslin.

Mona Lourette Davis, 78

Mona Lourette Davis, of Greensburg, the daughter of the late Ualies Jeffries and Gail Clark Walker, was born April 22, 1945 in Green County and departed this life on Friday, December 15, 2023 in Greensburg at her home. She was 78 years of age.

She was a homemaker and a former employee of Amazon.com. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed cooking, playing internet games, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include six children: David Cobb, Diane Wilson, Steven Cobb (Charlette), Darryl Cobb, Nicky Cobb (Rhonda), and Misty Cobb.

Six brothers and sisters: Michael Jeffries, Marlene Matheis, Kathy Miller, Darla Jeffries, Tony Jeffries, and Tony Jeffries.

Also, seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son: Wade D. Cobb and two brothers: Nicky Jeffries and Jeffrey Jeffries.

The family has chosen cremation and all services will be private.

Brenda Sue Sapp of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Clarence Warner and Geneva Cox Warner, was born April 30, 1941 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 7:36 A.M., Friday, December 15, 2023 in Campbellsville.    Age:  82

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.  She loved her church and all of her church family.

Brenda was a retired co-owner and operator with her husband, Clem, of Sapp’s Fruit Market.  She was also an employee of Kroger and loved her Kroger family.

Brenda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and decorating and collecting roosters.

She united in marriage to Clem Sapp November 4, 1961 and he preceded her in death September 4, 1992.

Brenda is survived by five sons:  Keith Hardin and wife, Jeannie, Greg Sapp and wife, Mary Ann McLean-Sapp, Lynn Sapp and wife, Tammy, Todd Sapp and wife, Edith and Joey Sapp and wife, Melissa of Campbellsville; eleven grandchildren: Tye Hardin and wife, Karen, Chelsea Dobson and husband, Brett, Ethan Sapp,  Hannah Tucker and husband, Brandon, Patrick Sapp, Anthony Sapp and wife, Megan, Lexi Sapp, Mike Tamez, Josh Tamez, Cody Tamez and Evie Sapp; ten great-grandchildren:  Lela Kate Hardin, Lane Hardin, Grayson Tucker, Kannon Tucker, Anna Sapp, Roman Tamez, Addie Tamez and one more great-grandchild on the way; five sisters:  Donna Carol Watson, Terri Fain and Rhonda Cheatham and husband, Donald of Campbellsville, Norma Jean Whitley and Christine Sircy of Indianapolis, Indiana; special nephew, Timmy Baumgardner; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Brenda was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Linda Baumgardner.
