Larry Wayne “Flint” Akin, 67

Larry Wayne “Flint” Akin of Campbellsville, KY, the son of the late Simon Day Akin and Vernice Mouser Akin Sprowles Carns, was born in Campbellsville, KY, on June 29, 1957, and departed this life on Sunday, October 5, 2024, in Summersville, KY. He was 67 years of age.

He professed faith in Christ and attended God’s Grace Church. He was a bricklayer by trade. He enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting, making knives from antlers, hunting and making canes, and shooting old guns.

He is survived by two daughters: Shawn Akin Sowders and Tracy Akin Montgomery and fiancé Kyle Mardis all of Campbellsville. Six grandchildren: Nathan Sowders, Nova Sowders, J.J. Sowders, Makayla Montgomery, Kayden Cox, and Brayson “Bubba” Cox.

Also surviving are a host of step-brothers and step-sisters, and his special cousin and friend David Mouser and wife Debbie of Campbellsville, and his dog, Lady Kay.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Genia Sherrill, and a brother, Thomas Sprowles, a grandson, Jaxson Wayne Sowders, and a son-in-law, Josh Sowders.

The funeral for Larry Wayne “Flint” Akin will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the L. R. Petty Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Bro. David Mouser will officiate.

The family has requested visitation on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 5-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Carolyn Sue Giles

Carolyn Sue Giles of Knifley, KY, the daughter of the late William Buford Sherrill and Eula Dixon Sherrill, was born in Adair County, KY, on October 4, 1941, and departed this life on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was 83 years of age.

She professed faith in Christ and attended the Elk Horn Baptist Church. She was employed by Fruit of The Loom in Campbellsville at the time of its closing, and was a homemaker and a farmer. She enjoyed riding horses, four-wheelers, gardening, and goats.

She united in marriage to Rev. Hershey Giles and he preceded her in death in 2009.

She is survived by one daughter and one son: Teresa Scott of Campbellsville, and William Edgar Giles of Knifley. One brother and one sister: Cebert Sherrill and his wife Mary Alice of Louisville, and Wanda Spires and husband Donnie of Campbellsville.

Also surviving is one grandchild, Nicole Britton (Tyler), and two great-grandchildren: Tylee Britton and Cole Britton.

Besides her parents, and her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers: William Benny Sherrill, and Buford Kenny Sherrill

 

Following her wishes, cremation was chosen and burial will be at a later date in the Caldwell Chapel Cemetery.

David Randall Pepper

David Randall Pepper of Campbellsville, KY, the son of the late Joseph Shreve Pepper and Sybil Jeffries Pepper, was born in Campbellsville, KY, on April 23, 1950, and departed this life on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his residence. He was 74 years of age.

He was a former truck driver and had also been employed as a security guard. He was raised in the Separate Baptist Faith.

He is survived by one daughter: Tracy Lynn Pepper of Campbellsville and three grandchildren: Latasha Thompson (Terry), Joshua Bradley (Candace) all of Campbellsville, and Devin Shell of Greensburg. Six great-grandchildren: Cambria Thompson, Allan Thompson, Christopher Bradley, Katelyn Bradley, Klaton Durbin, and Shaylah Durbin.

Also surviving are two brothers and five sisters: Garry Dale Pepper, James Robert Pepper, Betty Catherine Beams, Beverly Ann Bloyd, Bonnie Doris Nolley, Karen Lynn Bland, and Debra Kay James, and also a special friend, Jerry Jeffries.

The family has chosen cremation and there will be no services.
