Laura E. Farrar

Laura E. Farrar, 59, of the Levelwoods Community, died peacefully at her home on September 23, 2019. She and her husband, Mark A. Farrar had recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. Born June 13, 1960, in San Francisco California, she was the daughter of Mr. Alfred E. Harris and Mrs. Sydney Cotton. Laura lived her early life in Kitsap County, Washington, where she graduated from Kitsap County High School and later, Washington State University. She also earned several Master’s Degrees in counseling and education from Tarleton State and Western Kentucky Universities. She also was a certified horse instructor with the British Equestrian Society. In 1983, she volunteered for active duty service in the United States Army. Commissioned a 2LT in the Transportation Corps, she held several distinctive division level leadership positions in the famed 3rd Armored Division Federal, Republic of Germany before leaving active service to pursue motherhood. Her awards include the Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and the Cold War Service Medal among others. She was employed as an English teacher at several Kentucky schools (both private and public) with the most time spent at Larue County High School from which she retired. She was also an active community volunteer leader. Some of these leadership roles included Dog 4H Club, Pony Club and over twenty years of Sunday school instruction. A published author, she is best known for her novel “Legs, the Journey of an American Thoroughbred” which is both a novel and a critique of the horse slaughter industry. A skilled flautist, she was typically first chair flute in many wind ensembles and performed at church, military and public events worldwide. However, Laura was best known as an extremely talented and skilled horse rider, trainer, breeder and horse farm director. Her equine pursuits included higher level dressage competition, trail riding (which both she and her husband enjoyed immensely) and contributed over thirty years of sidesaddle demonstration and participation in the reenacting and living history hobby. She was a member of and served on the session of Bethel First Presbyterian Church Campbellsville, Kentucky. Laura will be remembered for being a devoted wife and mother, a person with an exceptionally keen intellect and wit, sincere religious devotion, in depth knowledge of English literature and a true friend of the many horses she rescued from the horse slaughter industry. Survivors include her parents, Alfred E. Harris of Poulsbo, Washington and Mrs. Sydney Cotton of Bremerton, Washington; husband Mark A. Farrar, US Army (ret) of Campbellsville; son CPT Victor Farrar, US Army IN and his wife, Marsalie McKenzie of Ft. Benning, Georgia; daughters: Elizabeth and her husband, Anthony Heiskell of Louisville, LT Emily Turner and her husband, LT Caleb Turner of Elizabethtown, Hope Ballard and her husband, Logan Ballard of Buffalo; brother, Dr. Peter Harris and his wife, Ellen; grandsons: Anderson Ballard and Emmett Turner and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Bethel First Presbyterian Church
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Bethel First Presbyterian Church, 502 East Main St, Campbellsville KY followed by graveside services at Levelwoods farm with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Contributions in Laura’s name can be made to the American Standardbred Rescue Organization.

Patsy Dean, 65

Mrs. Patsy Alice Dean of Campbellsville was born December 29th, 1953 in Sebring, Highlands County, FL. She departed this life on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Campbellsville, being 65 years, 8 months, and 23 days of age.

She was the youngest daughter born to the late Hubert Earl Morris and Vera (Devane-Morris) Collins.

She is survived by her children: Michael James (Dorothy Johnson), Tonya Tate (Andrew), Daniel James (Brittany), and A.J. Dean, all of Campbellsville, and John Dean (Taylor) of Oklahoma,

Her grandchildren: Patsy James, Vera Brown, Vivian Brown (Jorden Perkins), Dalton Brown (Sarah Ann Bright), Caley James, Steven James, Mary James, Allison Dean, Cameron Dean, Josiah Dean, Jessica Ann James, and Jason Dean,

Special daughters: Tammy Dudgeon, Stacy Clements, and Mary Gail Alman,

Her special grandchildren: Chris and Kim Dudgeon and families, Vince and Patrick Yazzie, Cierra, Steven, Emily Clements, and Thomas Clements,

Eight brothers and sisters: Hubert Morris (Dollie) of Georgia, Claude Morris (Genie) of Florida, Sybil Morris Herndon of Florida, Billy Morris (Carolyn) of Georgia, Tommy Morris (Emily) of Florida, Audrey Morris Ledbetter of Missouri, John Morris (Minnie) of Florida, and Garvis Morris (Pat) of South Carolina,

And several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Shania Page James; a special longtime friend, Sheryl Skinner; and a special great grandchild, Kyelynn Rain Yazzie; and three sisters, Judy Morris Maness, Mary Morris Yates, and Gwenda Morris Hitch.

Mrs. Dean had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed watching TV and playing on her tablet while spending time with her fur baby Charlie.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Dean on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home. Bro. Mitchell Hedge will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 10:00 AM until time for the service.

Johnnie Venters, 70

Mr. Johnnie Lee Venters of Campbellsville was born in McLeansboro, Illinois on November 3, 1948 to Thelma (Atteberry) and the late Clarence Hershel Venters. He departed this life on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Louisville VA Medical Center being 70 years, 10 months, and 16 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Whites Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Venters had an unassuming demeanor and a kind and helpful spirit, and carried himself with an earned confidence. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, and retired after 20 years of service. When he wasn’t trying to help someone, he spent most of his free time in the woods or on the lake.

He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, William Walter Venters , in 1954.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Venters on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 6:00 PM EST (5:00 PM CST) in the sanctuary of the Truth Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, 4607 Old Lebanon Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Dickie Rogers will be officiating. Mr. Venters had requested cremation, and those wishes will be accorded him after the funeral.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, Sept. 28, after 5:00 PM EST (4:00 PM CST).
